Traveling in Asia has no shortage of odd and quirky ways to drink coffee. Seoul offered all sort of novelty coffee shops in Seoul which included everything from sipping coffee out of a toilet to admiring 3D latte cats. Fortunately – Singapore also doesn’t disappoint.
Selfie Coffee holds true to its promise – each cup is topped with your best shot and you get to fulfill your long lasting dream of sipping coffee while staring into your very own eyes. If you’re the narcissistic type, it doesn’t get more romantic than that.
The coffee shop is located at the hip Haji Lane neighborhood, which deserves a post on its on. It’s colorful, full of street art, boutiques and beautiful architecture. I’ve shared some of it’s charm at the end of the post.
The places doesn’t look very inviting from the outside, but it’s pretty easy to find – look for the big brown cup of coffee and tree painting.
Selfie Coffee offers a large variety of drinks as well as some cakes and pizzas. The menu is written on a big chalk board and is divided into a few sections: Hot\Selfie Cold (seriously), Selfie Frappe, Fruit Drink, Twining of London and more.
The selection of drinks is HUGE. The Hot\Selfie Cold beverages include matcha, vanilla coffee, amaretto, butterscotch and strawberry coffee. Want to connect with your inner child? Get the dark chocolate drink. There also Selfie Frappes in many different flavors – cinnamon, hazelnut and more.
In the corner you’ll find a table stacked with Selfie Props if you want to get creative and/or whimsical. We preferred to take selfies as our boring selves.
Ready to order? Fantastic! Get your best face on (and no duck face please!) The friendly staff will hand you a phone with their app, and within no time (actually, some time) you’ll have it printed on your beverage of choice. There’s also an option to bring your own photos, in case you have a bad hair day. Not far fetched, considering Singapore’s hot-sauna-all-year-round situation.
We both got cold drinks, not only because of the heat but also because it’s makes the picture last longer. We ordered a Vanilla Coffee (8.5 SGD / $6 / 22₪) for Opher and Chocolate Banana (8.5 SGD / $6 / 22₪) for me. The cups are fairly large, which is a plus, but quite disappointingly are of the cheap plastic variety.
We went up to the second floor and grabbed a seat at the bar by the window. Our buzzer let us know when the drinks were ready and we went to pick them up from the counter.
Then began a photo shoot with our magnificent coffee which wouldn’t embarrass a Supermodel. Yes, we took selfies of ourselves taking selfies with our coffee featuring selfies… It’s very meta, I know. We were surprised by the prints’ good quality!
My drink was too liquid-y but Opher’s was the best Vanilla Coffee he ever had.
Do I recommend you to visit? Of course! This is a fun experience and the drinks themselves aren’t half bad.
As promised, here’s some pictures to soak in Haji Lane’s atmosphere.
