Located in one of the most chic neighborhood in HK, is Elephant Grounds, a coffee shot that pride itself in sourcing beans from small farm producers from all over the world. They independently roast their beans in small batches to ensure consistency and quality.
Besides the branch on Gough Street, which we visited, Elephant Grounds has outlets at Causeway Bay, Wong Chuk Hang and Wan Chai. Gough street is worth a visit even if you’re not into coffee, as it’s packed full of trendy and stylish fashion, design and lifestyle boutiques. You’re also likely to come across some cool street art.
Elephant Grounds is tucked at the back of WOAW, which stands for “World of Amazing Wonders”. Here you’ll find many fun and quirky items like gadgets, stationery, accessories, homeware and more.
The menu includes various blended coffee such as Dart Roast Latte, Smoked Milk Affogato and Verona Mocha. They also offer drip coffee, siphon coffee and a selection of tea.
We ordered our drinks from the Seasonal Special menu which looked especially appealing.
For me – Salted Caramel Latte (55HKD / $7 / 25₪) because I can’t pass an opportunity of salted caramel in any form. For Opher – Rose Honey Latte (55HKD / $7 / 25₪).
I was really hoping to have a taste of their Ice Cream Sandwich, but the featured flavor of the day was Toasty Hazelnut (both the cookies and ice cream), which I’m not really a fan of, so we skipped it and stuck to the latte.
We grabbed our drinks and headed to the small porch but if it’s too chilly (does it even ever get chilly Hong Kong?) you can also grab a seat at the bar inside.
As for the drinks – the rose latte was our favorite. The salted caramel one could use a flavor boost – the caramel taste was pretty faint.
I wouldn’t say Elephant Grounds is a destination but if you’re strolling around in a location where they have a branch, it’s a great place to sit down, have a coffee and recharge. Who knows, you might get lucky and find an ice cream sandwich taste you like.
We’ll leave you off with a taste of the great street art this area has to offer:
