Truck De Luxe has been a favorite of mine ever since they opened. The place is actually the second one from the folks behind Pundak De Luxe, which is located in the midst of Jaffa Flea Market. They opened Truck De Luxe right by Dizengoff Square, next to 6 in May restaurant that made aliyah from Jerusalem. First thing you’ll notice about this place is the big truck inside the restaurant. This place is the closest you’ll get to a food truck in Tel Aviv since there’s a municipal by law which prohibits peddling. This is really a shame since I love the food truck culture very much.
This place became our preferred option when the craving for meat hits us, so I already ate there a bunch of times. However, this is was our first time sampling the brunch they started serving a few weeks ago. The brunch is served on Friday and Saturday between 10:00-13:00 and there are no plans for extending it at the moment. We decided to go there on a whim and although the place was pretty packed at A12M, they were able to find a table of 4 outside for us.
On previous visits I mainly focused on pork based dishes, as I find it really hard to resist pig when I go to places that serve it. For brunch we went for Grilled Cheese #2 – sandwich with brie cheese, homemade lamb bacon and fig (53₪\$13.5).
The other dish we chose was the Benedict Brisket – poached egg, brioche bread, holandaize and smoked brisket (59₪/$15).
First arrived a basket of pastries which included 2 types of bread and 3 small cookies. The meal comes with a soft beverage or coffee as well. I decided to add 10 more shekels (2.5$) to upgrade for a cocktail and went for the Kentucky Ice Tea – Bourbon, iced tea and triple sec. I fancy tea in all shapes and forms so this cocktail was a real delight for me.
I must admit the dishes we chose from the brunch don’t look as appealing as the ones we had before from the regular menu. Nevertheless the taste is amazing as usual. Grilled Cheese #2 presents a combination of ingredients I haven’t seen in any other restaurant in Israel. I really enjoyed it and the the salad on the side (wish there was more of it). It also didn’t feel heavy, which is great if you know you won’t be getting any afternoon nap. Benedict Brisket was a nice take on a morning classic. You really can’t go wrong with poached eggs and smoked brisket. Actually, maybe you can but this one was supper yummy.
For dessert we chose the Crack Pie. I really hoped it would be as delicious as the Crack Pie at the late Cafe 48. Unfortunately it wasn’t as heavenly and the berries were out of place in my opinion. Next time I’m going to stick with the vanilla ice cream with salted caramel and bacon. It’s always a winner.
This is a place you come for heavy indulgence with interesting dishes like: Fold pork pancake with Crème fraîche, Spicy Shrimpburger with stirred spinach, pickled onion and spicy mayo and Trailer Trash Burger with bacon, cheddar cheese and vegetables. The trend of American\barbecue is currently flourishing in Tel Aviv, but Truck De Luxe is by far the best option. Pay a visit if you’re looking for a fun and tasty American style dishes, at reasonable prices and an interesting and diverse menu.
