While I was doing my research online, prior to my Tokyo vacation, I came across many recommendation for Bills – an Australian restaurant. All the reviews I came across were raving about one dish specifically – the ricotta hotcakes, banana and honeycomb butter (¥1400). I knew I had to have it!
Bills has a few locations in Tokyo, but visiting the one in Odaiba fit right into my schedule. I read that there are great lines at lunch with no possibility to reserve a table. In light of that and of our full day of activities in Odaiba, we decided to go there for breakfast. We arrived quite early at Odaiba, and while the area seemed pretty sleepy, Bills was quite lively. The restaurant is very big and spacious and the atmosphere is pleasant. As most places in Tokyo, Bill also excel in service – even though the waitresses didn’t speak much English, they were very helpful and service oriented.
Most importantly the food here was fantastic. Prices are on the upper scale but everything we tasted felt very fresh and well prepared. The Australian breakfast, which cost ¥2000 was excellent and included scrambled organic eggs, toast, bacon, roast tomato, herbed mushrooms, pork and fennel sausage. However, the main attraction is of course the ricotta hotcakes. Oh my, they were terrific. The flavor, texture, everything was so perfect. The honeycomb butter was the best part of the dish in my opinion and I can see myself eating it everyday on everything.
We also enjoyed the Sunrise smoothie with berries, banana, yogurt and orange (¥780) and a freshly squeezed orange juice. Add tax to prices mentioned and get to the total of ~5250 ($43/168₪) which is definitely pricier than the average. If you’re not on a tight budget, and would like to indulge yourself with a great Aussie breakfast I would recommend paying Bills a visit.
I’ll finish this post with two treats that waited for us after getting out of the restaurant – cute dogs in a stroller and a beautiful view, even though it’s rainy and grey.
